Palais des Papes, Avignon
Did you know that the Palais des Papes is the biggest gothic palace in the world ? Or, that it was built in less than 70 years by popes, and that today there are 25 rooms open for you to visit ? The Palais des Papes is a historical treasure trove; having once served as a military barracks, it is now used as a theatrical stage and a cultural setting for prestigious exhibitions.
Over 20 rooms are open to visitors, scenes of historic events, in particular the pope’s private chambers and the frescoes painted by the Italian artist Matteo Giovannetti. Le Palais des Papes (literally translated as the Popes’ Palace) also offers visitors continuous cultural activities throughout the year.
The ticket includes the visit to the Palais des Papes as well as the use of the histopad, a touchpad enabling a temporal immersion in the main parts of the monument, entirely re-constituted as they would have been in the 14th century.

Each visitor must go to the line for pre-paid tickets and present their Vaucluse Provence Pass.
