Lambert Collection

Museum of contemporary art displaying the works donated to the French government by the famous art dealer Yvon Lambert. The Collection Lambert now displays permanent and temporary exhibitions. The Collection Lambert in Avignon was founded in 2000 by Yvon Lambert, seeking to open his personal collection of contemporary art to the public, within the walls of the city mansion known as the Hôtel de Caumont. This collection of contemporary art reflects the major movements in the art of our times: Minimal art, Conceptual art, Land art, painting from the 1980's, video and photography from the 1990's. The collection holds works from great artists such as: Cy Twombly, Sol LeWitt, Donald Judd, Niele Toroni,Jean-Michel Basquiat, Anselm Kiefer, Christian Boltanski, Nan Goldin,Douglas Gordon and Jenny Holzer whose work can be seen throughout the year, alternating or in temporary exhibitions. Since the month of July 2015, the new museum, with twice the display area, is open. The two mansions, built side by side - the Caumont House and the Montfaucon House, now display a permanent exhibition of the collections. There is a program of guided tours on themes relating to the temporary exhibits and the architectureof the place. There are conferences and workshops for children.

NEW EXHIBITION FROM JUNE 30TH TO MARCH 2020- UN ART DE NOTRE TEMPS #2

From date 11 June 2019 to date 31 March 2020

From date 08 July to date 29 September 2019

Grotesque characters, scenes halfway between joy and unease: Miryam Haddad’s colourful paintings, like the poster she made for the Festival, illuminate the 73rd edition and the Collection Lambert.

Syrian artist Miryam Haddad, 28, introduces us to her world, reminiscent of the vibrant and colourful works of James Ensor and Oskar Kokoschka. Her scenes feature grotesque characters and slowly reveal subtler, deeper layers, which turn this phantasmatic world into a wonderful, surprising game of agility for the eyes. At times mad dances, at times myths full of colourful shapes, shifting between joy and unease, the paintings of the Paris-based artist mesmerise with their diversity, their elusive themes, their originality. A body of work perfectly illustrated by the poster of the Festival d'Avignon, about which Miryam Haddad says, following her reading of Homer's Odyssey: “he writes about morning as 'rose-fingered dawn.' I found that beautiful (...). For the Festival d'Avignon, I wanted to see the sky pink.” A dream in and of itself, if not quite a programme...

Born in 1991 in Syria, Myriam Haddad joined the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris after studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus. After her studies, her work was presented at Artagon III, the international meeting of art school students. Several of her paintings were then acquired by the Collection Lambert. The gallery Art: Concept hosted her in 2018 for her first solo show, Désordres. The collective show Jeunes artistes en Europe, une Métamorphose at the Fondation Cartier allowed the public to discover new paintings before her second solo show at the Collection Lambert during the Festival d'Avignon.
